A Tale From Harry… (Part 1)

When Stryker appeared, (I never have figured out where he came from) I was working on the fence and wall in the south side of the Island. I felt a presence and when I turned around there was Stryker…

If Stryker had been a Zombie I would have been dead or worse turned into a Zombie…

Stryker helped me with the fence and never said a word. I took the help gratefully and was glad he was a good guy. I had seen too many bad guys, so to speak…

Then the only thing Stryker really said to me was, “Tell me what you were doing the day, the Zombie Virus struck?”

So, I told him…

I had just moved to New Zealand. I brought my family with me and we had bought a little lot located outside of town, with other neighbors located nearby. New Zealand has got to be the most beautiful place on earth, or at least until the Zombies came and we turned New Zealand into a Fortress, that is…

I will never forget the morning that the Zombie Virus struck…

It was raining cats and dogs outside, I awoke to a clap of thunder and a flash of lightning. My wife was gone from the bed and I decided to get up and see if all was okay…

Now that was an understatement. Just okay would have been a blessing, but what I found was just plain not okay…

The house was empty and my two boys and wife were not to be found. I was standing near the front bay window of the house and a flash of lightning lit the would up out side. I saw my two boys and wife standing in the yard, staring straight up into the sky, heads back, mouths open and eyes unblinking…

I ran outside and tried to scream over the raging storm. Nothing I did had an effect on them. I shook them and screamed at them and slapped them across the face. They just stood there and stared into the sky. I even knocked then to the ground and they would just get back up and stare at the sky again…

I finally gave up and went back into the house. It was extremely cold and very wet. I look back now at the fact that I did not drag them into the house. For they would have come out of the Rain Trance, as I like to call it and try to eat me. I had no idea at that point that they were Zombies and was very venerable to what was happening to me family. Something told me to leave them be and do some thinking first before I went any farther in this matter…

I guess God was looking out for me, but I wish he could have looked out over my family and taken me instead…

I stood by the bay window the rest of the night. Ever flash of lightning lit up my families faces and I realized that they were not normal anymore. Every flash of lightning showed me more and more things wrong about them. One flash would reveal a bite mark on the boys necks and the next flash would reveal that my wifes left hand had three fingers missing…

Then I saw something that shocked me. I saw 10 other people standing off the side of the yard and they were doing the same thing as my wife and kids…

That is when I went and locked all the doors and windows. I closed all the storm shutters and batten down the hatches as we say. That is what saved my life, for I then passed out as I bolted the last door. I do not know why, but I guess that my brain had had enough right at that moment…

I awoke to the sounds of moans and smashing, against the doors and windows of the house. I peaked out the peep hole in the front door and staring right back at me was my wife and she sensed that I was there. She went into a frenzy and started shake the door in its hinges. That was the Que for all the Zombies around the house to try to knock the house down…

It was right then as I had looked at my wifes gray and torn face, that I realized that these were Zombies. These were brain eating Zombies and somehow, I did not become one…

I am green eyed, but so is my wife and two boys. So why did they change?

I figured that out as I went to an upstairs window and watched what later became known to me as the Zombie marriage issue…

It took a day, but I discovered that when a Zombie bites a human and changes that human. The Zombies form a marriage of sorts. They stay together and as the group grows so does the lethality of the group. More Zombies, more brains and food…

I saw our neighbor man, my wife and mt two kids all together in one group. Later as my brain started to work, I realized that my wife was bit by that guy and she then bit the children of ours. The rain must have saved my life as my wife and kids went outside to be tranced by the rain. So then I realized later that my wife had gone to play patty cake (hanky panky) with the good looking neighbor guy and when infected she stumbled home before turning and went to the kids. Then she turned and bit the kids and I slept the whole time this was happening. I was saved by the storm that started and all the Zombies wandered out into the rain to do the Zombie Trance thing…

My wife was a well known rounder back in Britain and I really hoped that moving to New Zealand would slow that process down, but I guess once a tramp always a tramp…

I spent a few days feeling sorry for myself and then I woke to reality. I realized that there had to be others still human and I would find them. The power was off and the food was gone. I had a shotgun and three boxes of shells. Bird shot for fowl hunting. But let me tell you at close range, it takes the Zombie head clean off at the neck…

I determined that these Zombies were without a doubt, not human anymore and that all they care about is their next meal. I decided to leave…

My Zombie wife was at the door still trying to get in. I opened the door and pulled her inside. I then closed the door as I went outside. I decided that she should stay a Zombie and be imprisoned and rot slowly till she is gone. The house would make her a good prison, bless her skanky soul…

The boys were good and did not deserve to be Zombies. I put them out of their Zombie Virus misery. Then as I contemplated that I just shot what use to be my two boys. The gun blasts brought every Zombie for miles around, to see what was up. Noise is the biggest factor of Zombie attacks…

So next I blew the guy next doors head off and proceeded to decimate the Zombies in the yard of my home. Then I saw the neighbor across the street and he was waving from his upstairs window. I worked my way over to him and at this point I was running low on ammo…

He yelled at me and said, “My battle axe of a Zombie wife is still in the house, she wants to eat my brains. Could you please blow her head off for me, so that I can get my guns and ammo. I warn you she is a tough character and she will not go down easy. Oh – God how I hate her…”

With that he ducked his head back inside…

I tried the door and found it locked. I then blew the lock off and the door swung inward. That is when I met my first Zombie that could move and move fast. By god she was a real bitch to kill. It shot her twice, but with her speed and size, I was lucky to just get off two shots. They hit her in the chest and she acted like I spit at her, instead of two rounds of bird shot at close range. She was a huge woman and filled the whole hallway that she charged down…

I was saved at that point by her husband as he came up behind her and smacked her with a baseball bat. That allowed me to reload as she decided to take his brains instead. He screamed and ran back to the stairs with her close on his heels…

I clicked the gun closed and the sound of the click seemed like it was amplified a million times. The Zombie from Hell turned at the noise and stared at me. I could see what was left of that brain thinking about my brains and that I would be good to eat…

She moaned this horrendous moan and charged down the hallway at me. I was backed against the door and she was charging like a freight train. I had two shells of bird shot and that just seemed to be not enough, right at that moment…

I heard the guy yell. “Get down!”

So I hit the floor and he had found his guns. I heard a roar and she was hit in the back with a round of buckshot from his shotgun. She hit the door instead of me as I was laying on the floor. She also tripped on me and as she hit the front door she tore it off the hinges and went out into the front yard with twenty other Zombies , who had come to see what is for dinner…

She got up and grabbed another Zombie and tore that Zombie in half. Then she turned toward us standing in the doorway and charged…

I had reloaded and so had he. He yelled, “Kill the bitch!” Then we both unloaded our shotguns into her…

She stopped and wavered for a second and I saw that her head had sustained enough damage that she should be incapacitated. She had brains oozing out the side of her head and as she wavered, her husband pulled out a 9mm Glock and unloaded it into what was left of her head. She finally went down and went down permanently…

But we had a yard full of Zombies and no front door to stop them from getting us…

That is it for today and tomorrow I will finish the story.

So Part 2 of Harry’s Tale will be next…

Stryker…
