I wandered into Merry Ole England at one point in my escapades touring the planet. I came upon an huge open field that looked like it was a wheat field. It was flat and in the middle of this field was a huge castle being built…
I started to walk toward the castle and was deep in thoughts about why someone would build a castle in a field, when there was so many wonderful hills to build one on and defend better. My thoughts were interrupted as up rode a knight in shining armor, on a white horse. He had a sword and a lance…
I recognized his sword it was a Vorpal swords. The Vorpal sword is known for their uncanny ability to sever heads, as compared to swords of sharpness, which merely cut off arms or legs. It stirred my interest even more as that sword is from the underworld…
I thought that would be a good thing against Zombies…
I looked at the rider and all I saw was a full suited armored guy with his faceplate down. He say and watched me and then said, “Aren’t you scared?”
I ignored him and started to walk on by him. I decided that looney’s were not interesting and the castle was interesting. I also figured that he was something to do with the castle anyway…
This seemed to irritated him and I heard him decided to charge after I had walked a 100 yards or so…
I spun with my sword drawn and caught the lance as it neared my body. The sword split the lance like peeling a strip of celery off to eat the stringy strip that you just cut. It just curled in a beautiful pattern…
Then I told the horse to stop and as the horse stood there and ignored the commands of his owner. I smacked him off the horse and flat to his back with a very loud clang of steel armor…
I was not an unforgiving god this day and I cut him down the middle lengthwise and ended his play on life. I turned back to the castle and told the horse to get going. I was interested in the castle…
As I neared the castle, I was confronted by 13 men or horseback. The very middle man rode forth and met me s I crossed the field to look at the castle. He came abreast of me and asked me to, “Explain yourself and have did you bring war to my castle doors?”
I laughed and said, “The only war I bring is if you try to kill me again and give me an excuse to slaughter you all like the dogs you are!”
He was quiet after I said this…
I realized that I was dealing with a group of people that have mentally slipped back into the bygone eras and were living in fantasy land. This was all caused by the Zombie Virus and society dysfunctions as society disbanded and died…
I acted like them and became bold and tough…
He looked out into the field and said, “That was my best man!”
I was silent and started to walk again toward the castle…
He made a grunting noise and then I saw his men put their weapons aside. I knew he had motioned for them to let me by. I guess he figured that if I was bad, I would just kill them all and do what I want anyway. At least if they are nice, I may be on may way before mischief is started by me…
I was actually stunned as I went nearer to the castle, It was a beautiful structure and there was maybe a thousand people all around this complex. Women were tending gardens, men dragging stones to the walls with horses and carts, knights riding horses all around as they guarded the castle outside by day from Zombies and inside at night from thieves…
Everyone stopped what they were doing as I approached and I could feel the eyes in front of me and the 13 riders behind me, watching what I was up to. I saw several guys take a cart and left to get the man I had sliced in half in the field…
Then a loud booming voice came forth from the draw gate as it was let down in front of me. As the gate hit the ground with a swoosh of dust and a thud. A huge mountain of a man stepped onto the draw gate that spanned the mote of water and he bellowed, “Welcome to my castle!”
I then realized that while he was a man, he was also part ogre as we say in fairy tales. He was the first real ogre that I have ever seen on earth and I really had believed that all trolls and ogres where dead…
I then realized hidden well as in camouflaged I saw Trolls and other ogres all around…
Now I am a big human and hold my own size wise with most guys, but these guys were huge and I mean huge. The big man who bellowed at me to be welcomed, introduced himself…
He said, “I am Virgil! Virgil The Conqueror!”
I said, “Glad to meet you!” and held out my hand…
He grabbed it and pulled me to him in a hug! Then he looked at me as he held me at arms length and said, “We must be kind to you! For you are him!”
Then he screamed come and lets rejoice for god has stopped to tell us stories…
I was given a room of splendid makings and told that dinner was in an hour. The apologies were made that the room was so meager and when the castle is finished in a few years it will be better. I cleaned up and laid down a minute to rest. I have not laid on a bed in years…
I was summoned to dinner and was taken into a huge hall of tables. At the head table was Virgil and he had a place next to him for me. We had roast duck, rabbit, quail, beef, chicken and tons of vegetables and breads. This place was rocking with comforts and it was a castle…
I noticed that the center of the castle had a huge hole in the floor. I realized that this castle was located on the entrance to the underworld. The underworld that I amongst all humans and even gods thought was dead. I found it interesting that Reapers such as me have never ventured into these depths. Then I wandered how many other places in the universe are like this?
As if in answer to my thinking’s, Virgil boomed with that load voice, “This is it! The last of the underworld. Most have died after being turned to Zombies and the rest killed by humans as we fought over the years for survival. We have banded together here in a last attempt, to try to make a play at surviving this terrible world, overrun with Zombies!”
I ate in silence and then when the girls cleared the tables and the men gathered around. I was asked to tell three tales of what was happening out there in the rest of the world. I looked at these people and trolls and ogres and said, “I will tell three tales, if you Virgil, tell me what and how all this happened the day the Zombie Virus hit?”
The cheers from the men and woman now, who had come back to listen to stories, was defining and Virgil was forced into telling a tale after I told my three tales…
I found out that three tales by a traveler like me of great importance was a necessity, no more than three, no less than three! For more than three would bring sure death upon the castle walls and less than three would bring starvation and weakness upon the castle walls. So three it was…
I told three tales to the inhabitants of the castle, In fact three tales that are within these pages that you have read. I will let you decide which three tales I told them. They sat on the edges of their very seats listening to the tales I told. The held their breaths as Zombies attacked and they had tears in their eyes as people suffered amongst the Zombie nightmare. Then I was done and they cheered to beat the band. They said while they want more tales of Zombies, they knew that only three could be told and now they looked at their King Virgil. For now it was his turn to tell a tale of how this all started…
Here is Virgil’s tale…
I was minding my own business sitting in my deep dark Cavern that I use to live in. There was a huge explosion and half my home caved in. It seems that someone blew up the human made underground bunker that was put above my head. I never bothered it as they never knew I was here, but they had themselves a regular bomb shelter and it seems that they did a terrible job of building that bomb shelter…
Understand that I am a half human and half ogre. My mother was a beautiful princess and my father was a king ogre who lived under ground and one day they met and fell in love. Love is different to all creatures and they were happy. They had me their only child and I was not able to go to the surface as the humans would kill me if they found me. My dad was not able to travel much to the surface either and many times it was a close call as to he was almost caught several times. My mother finally came to live in the deed dark depths, but the darkness killed her after awhile and my dad and I lived in solitude. Solitude of a King Ogre and his son…
Well I had lived for ever under the surface and this giant hole to the surface was just the ticket to look around and see what was going on. At the worst I thought another world war like the first two, where they blew the hell out of everything in sight…
I climbed up and poked my head out of the hole. I was surprised, as I saw a field of Zombies and these aircraft were flying overhead to bomb them. One by one the aircraft fell from the sky and the craft that fell nearest to me. I saw Zombies getting out of the wreckage. I knew about Zombies, because as we are the underworld and Zombies are part of the underworld…
So I climbed out of the hole and found Zombies attacking me. That was a surprise as Zombies never attack in the underworld. At least not ogres and trolls and such. I smashed Zombie after Zombie and left a trail of crushed Zombies as I walked around and enjoyed the sunshine…
I wandered until I came upon a town of green eyed people. Everyone was green eyed. They were impervious to the Zombie Virus, but a bite would change them. They were fighting with anything they had. They had baseball bats and pitchforks. They stabbed and smashed, but the Zombies kept coming. I helped and realized that even with my help we were doomed. There had to have been a hundred thousand Zombies coming out of the nearest big city, looking for food…
I took my medallion from my neck and tossed it to a young boy. I told him to run to the field that I came from and find the hole in the middle of the field. He understood what field and I said for him to climb down and cry out, “Trolls, Goblins, Ogres and Dragons! Virgil the Conqueror needs you!”
I then told him that the medallion would save hm and they will come and to lead them to us! I said, “Hurry before it is too late!”
He ran like the wind and we fought like demons trying to stay alive against these undead creatures called Zombies…
Just when I thought all was lost. I heard the roar of a dragon and fire shot out and it incinerated Zombies like a marshmallow in a stick. Then an army of underworld, some still squinting as they are not use to the sunlight, came to our rescue. Soon a hundred thousand Zombies were dead and we started a new life…
I realized that he was done and I blinked and said, “Dragons?”
He laughed and pointed at the ceiling. I looked up and realized what I thought was decorations was the most beautiful multicolored creatures in the world. Then as in answering my thoughts. One of them stretched and flipped right side up and landed on the top of a table. He spread his wings and was more beautiful than any peacock ever was and a thousand times more dangerous…
Then I heard a roar outside and as Virgil was laughing to beat the band. He told me that my ride is here and anywhere I want to go, he will take me…
I got up and went to the window of the castle. It was starting to get dark, but I could see clearly a huge dragon was outside. It was black and purple in color. The colors where all swirled together…
I ran outside as I stood in awe and you would have never thought that I could be surprised. Me a Reaper of the Gods…
Virgil laughed and said, “I must apologize for the way we met you and tried to kill you! This dragon is yours and only yours. If he likes you, he will stay with you!” Then Virgil said, “He is unbroken and I must break him! But sometimes they will not break and will eat there owner!”
I looked at Virgil and looked at the Dragon! I said, “When do I start?”
Virgil said, “That is up to you!”
Then I ran at the dragon and before he knew what was happening I grabbed his neck and swung myself upon his back. He screamed and I held on! He then took to the air and screamed at me as he tried to dislodge this unwanted passenger. We disappeared into the falling night sky. The purple in my dragon almost luminescent as we flew…
I hung on and squeezed him as hard as I could. We smashed into trees and went under the surface of lakes and we flew so high in the sky that we both almost passed out from lack of oxygen…
I talked to the dragon and after a few hours he realized that I was no normal human and nor was I an underworld being. Him and I spent a few hours flying some more and after one last attempt to rub me off his back and I stubbornly refused to go anywhere. He settled down and we went back to the castle…
Virgil was still waiting after all this time right outside the castle and he was laughing as he saw us appear. He said after we landed, “You are an amazing man! That creature has killed a hundred men in his thousand years of living! No one has ever ridden him back, much less survive and no one has ever just jumped on his back. If you had waited a second, I would have said that we will help you learn to ride…”
With that the dragon roared and stretched his wings and rubbed his head against me. Then he left to go back to his den. I told him to be here in the morning at sun up and he blinked at me and I knew he understood…
The morning came and my dragon was right there as he should be and after the goodbyes were said. I jumped on my dragons back and we took off to see the world. I had promised to be back and see how progress was being made on the castle…
I am telling this story from the top of Mt. Everest, we are on top of the world and looking out over what is left.No where is off limits now as I have a new companion to travel with me. We can transverse the globe in minutes instead of walking…
I know, I know! I have powers beyond this anyway, but somehow it is better, when I ride a dragon around the world now…
My dragon is called “Eminence” (High status or of great achievements!)
I have one more story for this book and I have saved the “Best for last…”
Stryker…
